The paper presents the analysis of the instability conditions of a national road routing and also, presents the consolidation solution imposed by the geological and geotechnical conditions of the site. The excess of the moisture content of the soil masses sustaining the stone masonry of the gravity retaining wall conducted to significant settlement of the rigid masonry structure. As the result of some heavy rainfall the instability phenomena increased in intensity and so, the gravity retaining wall cracked and large fractures and settlements appeared in the road body. For assuring the safety of the traffic, the conditions of stability and durability in time and to create normal exploitation conditions of the analysed road it was necessary to design and realize some engineering works to collect and evacuate the rainfall waters outside the road platform. Also, it was necessary to design and realize a new retaining structure placed on piles to ensure the general stability of the supporting slope.
