Relationship Of Stress, Cannabis Use And First Psychotic Episode

To check if the interaction between cannabis use and stress induced by recruitment to the army is related to the emergence of first psychotic episode (FPE), we compared data on cannabis use between two groups of male patients, with FPE, a group of newly recruited soldiers (N=20) vs. a group of patients from public hospitals (N=20).History of cannabis use frequency was not found to differ between general hospital patients with FPE and army recruits with FPE, not confirming our original hypothesis. Delusions and suicidal ideation were more frequent in the group of recruits vs. general hospital FPE patients. Cannabis use seemed to influence agitation /aggression, which was more frequent in the group of FPE patients who were cannabis users versus those who were not using cannabis.
