Prevalence of Mycoplasma spp. in California Bulk Tank Milk Samples

Mycoplasma spp. are a cause of contagious mastitis in dairy cattle and can result in substantial economic losses for dairy producers.1 However, prevalence of Mycoplasma spp. in bulk tank samples from California dairies has not been reported since 1997, at which time the prevalence of M. bovis was 11.2%.2 The objective of this study was to report on the prevalence of Mycoplasma spp. cultured from milk bulk tank (BT) samples submitted to the Milk Quality Laboratory at the Veterinary Teaching and Research Center, Tulare, California from 2001 to 2012.
