Trend of Mastitis Pathogens and Bulk Tank Somatic Cell Counts in North Italy from 2005 to 2011

Mastitis is one of the main and expensive disease in dairys. Veterinarians and breeders have made considerable efforts to make better hygienic milk quality and to reduce the prevalence especially of contagious microorganisms. The aim of the present study was to analyze frequency trend of mastitis pathogens isolated in 736,797 composite or quarter milk samples and the trend of bulk tank somatic cell counts (BTSCC) in 925,069 milk samples. All samples were collected from 2005 to 2011 in Lombardy, which is one of the most important Italian dairy area.
