摘要

Air filtration of farms located in pig-dense areas has been adopted as one tool for reducing external risk of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus exposure. The expense of installing filters on a farm is high and does not guarantee that PRRS virus will not gain access to a farm. PRRS breaks on filtered farms leave owners frustrated and searching for answers as to how PRRS virus continues to plague their farms. It is commonly discussed with our client base that once filtration systems have been installed, they have 80% of the expense and 20% of the effort towards making filtration successful. This paper focuses on critical access points and their risk as a component of the entire external risk picture. Critical access points (CAPs) are areas on a farm where people, supplies, and animals enter and exit the facility.
