Sulphuric acid production from pulp mill non-condensable gases

Sulphur is an essential chemical element in Kraft pulp mills and it actively participate in reactions with wood chips to produce pulp.Sulphur is present in black/white liquors,discharge waters and it escapes the pulp mill processes as non-condensable gases (NCG).Sulphur emissions impact the environment negatively.Reduced sulphur in NCG causes pungent smell in the mill’s surroundings and once they released to atmosphere,they transformed to oxidized sulphur that contributes to the large-scale acidification of soil,which affects vegetation and biodiversity negatively.
