摘要

As part of our ongoing research program into the synthesis of glycotherapeutics and the development of new glycosylation methodology, the synthesis of a number of glycosidase inhibitors and glycoconjugates using free radical methodology as the main synthetic step has been investigated. Free radical reactions are advantageous in that they can be carried out under mild conditions and are tolerant of a range of protecting groups and functional groups. Radical reactions are also advantageous in that they can be carried out in an aqueous environment and allow access to water soluble glycoconjugates with minimal use of protecting groups. The reactions can be monitored by ESR spectroscopy and the reactive intermediates can be characterised.
