Urban heat island effect has obtained more and more attention because environmental problems caused by the urban heat island have affected people's normal life. In this paper, qualitative and quantitative analyses have been used to study the relationship between normalized difference vegetated index (NDVI) and surface radiation temperature. The relationship of NDVI and surface radiation temperature has been studied in spatial profile. On that basis, the paper has studied the spatial distribution of heat island in Wuhan city and explained the features of the Wuhan spatial distribution of heat island. Research results has showed that there is obvious negative correlation between NDVI and the surface radiation; Heating island strength is higher in industrial and commercial areas than others; Water and green space perform a distinct role to divide and mitigate the heat island effect.
