OPERATING SBR PLANTS-ISSUES AND CONCERNS

This paper presents issues and concerns related to the sequencing batch reactor (SBR) operation raised by plant operators and answers provided by SBR manufacturers. The issues are concerning PLC operation, decanting mechanisms, skimming, floatable materials, and dissolved oxygen (DO) monitoring. The SBR system operation varies depending on continuous feed or batch feed with or without influent equalization. The SBR cycles could be operated at a fixed cycle time or fixed fill volume. These variations in SBR systems need to be considered when comparing the issues and concerns with other plants.
