Fox-In-A-Box: An Easily Deployed Satellite Telemetry Receiver

All the Fox satellites are or will be deployed in high inclination orbits. One disadvantage to theseorbits is that there are several orbits per day that pass over largely unpopulated areas (or with alow ham population at least). During these orbits, the AMSAT server receives little telemetry. Topartially solve this problem, we have developed an inexpensive, small, easy-to-deploy telemetrystation which can be sent to remote locations with only power, an internet connection, and aninterested but unskilled volunteer. Building such a station is also an easy and inexpensive way toget involved in satellite telemetry collection anywhere. This paper describes the design of thatstation, which we call “Fox-in-a-Box”, shortened occasionally to FIAB.
