Several years ago, a group of AMSAT volunteers, including Jan king, W3GEY, Dan Schultz, N8FGV,Phil Karn, KA9Q, Nick Pugh, K5QXJ and the writer, proposed to the AMSAT Board of Directors adesign for a 6U CubeSat to go into a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO). This was to be submitted toNASA in connection with its ELaNa program, the same NASA program that resulted in a free launchfor Fox-1, now AO-85. Unfortunately, the Board felt that the proposal was not complete enough, andthere was only one month before that year’s ELaNa proposals were due.
