Nowadays, manufacturers are required to be more concerned about making eco-friendly products and processes. The reasons behind this requirement are that there are several environment regulations, forming public opinion, and increasing competition capacity among manufacturers. This paper introduces a sustainable manufacturing system that has been recognized in public, but not yet widely applied. To design a sustainable manufacturing system, a Green Bill of Material (Green-BOM) is useful to support the basic idea of minimizing negative environment impacts. Therefore, this paper proposes the concept of Green-BOM as well as components of Green-BOM to facilitate sustainability in a manufacturing system. The components of Green-BOM and its sustainability must have causal relationships, and technical requirements for product design are to be identified, as a result of combining both matters. Then, we apply the quality function deployment (QFD) method in order to measure the quality of relationships between Green-BOM and sustainability components and to clarify whether they meet customer requirements or not.
