Pure Zinc Oxide (ZnO) and Cadmium (Cd) doped ZnO nanoparticles with compositional formula Zn_(1-x)Cd_xO were prepared via co-precipitation method. In this report, we studied the effect of Cd~(2+) ion doping on structural and optical properties of ZnO nanoparticles. XRD and Raman studies demonstrated that Cd doped ZnO nanoparticles exhibit single phase hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO. UV-Vis absorption and Photoluminescence investigations have been carried out, which reveal a decrease in the energy bandgap of ZnO from 3.1 eV to 2.3 eV with increase in Cd~(2+) ion dopants.
