PbTi_(0.5)Fe_(0.5)O_3 (PTFO) is one of the rare materials exhibiting coexistence of ferromagnetic (T_c appro× 350 °C) and ferroelectric (T_c appro× 450 °C) ordering at room temperature. Interestingly we have detected two anomalies (dielectric anomaly near magnetic transition and magnetic anomaly near dielectric transition temperature) in this compound. The dielectric anomaly has been reported earlier in different multiferroic systems. However magnetic anomaly near ferroelectric transition is not yet reported in any multiferroic system. The anomalous behavior in magnetic component persisting near ferroelectric transition could be attributed to structural change and stress developed during transition process.
