Synthesis of ZnO nanostructures with different morphology is successfully achieved via one step synthesis protocol by taking the advantage of multifunctional properties of long chain amine, i.e. solvent, reducing and surface functionalizing agent. The morphology of ZnO structures is controlled from rod, sphere, and pyramid to double pyramid shape by simple manipulation of zinc precursor to amine molar concentration ratio and heating rate of solution. Structural and morphological investigations show the wurtzite nature and micron size structures of ZnO. The large open area of polar/ non-polar surfaces in double pyramids structures results high defect emission intensity in photoluminescence measurements.
