摘要

Ben Butler grew up on his family's dairy farm in South Florida. From an early age he was active on the farm, assisting his father with the day to day chores on the farm. One of the common chores was moving beef cows, dry cows and heifers to the pens to be worked. The size of the pastures prohibited the cattle from being moved on foot, so horses were commonly used to gather cows. During the mid 1980's, all terrain vehicles (three and four wheelers) became popular, and many farms opted to use them forgathering cattle. They were reliable, and the only real expense and maintenance was keeping them fueled up. However, the accidents on farms greatly increased as a result of careless use of ATV's. Ben remembers asking his father why we continued to use horses as opposed to the more economical ATV's. To this day, he fondly remembers his father telling him "Son, no matter how small they both may be, two brains are better than one. At least when one makes a stupid decision, there's a good chance that the other will make up the difference." While he didn't agree with his father's anecdote at the time (Ben was 8 years old) because he felt that he NEEDED a four-wheeler, those words have stuck with Ben ever since.
