The synthesis of nanoparticles, their characteristic properties and behaviour is dependent on their size, shape and morphology. Nanobiotechnology is proving to have applications in many valuable biomedical areas such as bioanalysis, diagnostics, medical imaging devices, therapeutics as well as antimicrobial agents and therefore there is a need for cheap resources for the synthesis of nanoparticles. There are many established physical and chemical methods of synthesis, however the synthesis using plants extracts offers an attractive alternative since chemical synthesis is both expensive, and it is known to produce some toxic chemicals which may be a risk in medical applications and have environmental issues. The synthesis of nanoparticles by microorganisms, enzymes, and plants may allow for clean, affordable, non-toxic and environmentally acceptable procedures that are not only economical but can also be used for large-scale nanoparticle synthesis. This study aims to provide a 'greener' approach to synthesis of nanoparticles utilizing plant extracts from the leaves of three different plant families.
