Developing Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) for dementia with South Asian Ethnic Groups

This study adapted CST for people with dementia using cultural and ethnic issues for people with dementia from the Indian subcontinent. The CST group was based in London and conducted in Urdu/Hindi and Punjabi. Activities were adapted according to their cultural heritage, history and interests. Two sessions of 50 minutes each were grouped together with a tea break in between to cater for longer sessions. The groups were popular and provided a stimulating cognitive activity for people with dementia, who due to the language barrier, have often been excluded from psychosocial therapies.
