PRODUCTION SCHEDULING: AN APPROACH BASED ON PETRI NETS AND GRAPHS SEARCH. STUDY CASE: AGP-COLOMBIA

This work presents a solution approach for a real scheduling problem in a bulletproof glass company in Colombia; This company is one of the three bulletproof glass production lines of one of the largest producers of this type of glass in the world. The production system of the production line can be modeled as a Flexible Flow Shop framework; the main features are: batch processing constraints, eligibility of machines and limited capacity of machines among others; the objective function tested was minimizing makespan. Due to the difficulty of modeling real industry problems, this work introduces a methodology which combines both modeling and scheduling using Petri Nets and Heuristics Search methods. Currently the production schedule is prepared by experts in the company who base their decisions primarily on their expertise. Preliminary results have showed improvements around of 5% in the objective function compared with the current practice.
