APPLYING PROCUREMENT BEST PRACTICE TO ACHIEVE COST SAVINGS ENHANCE SERVICE PERFORMANCE IN DIFFICULT FINANCIAL TIMES

UK Government and EU targets require higher recycling and landfill diversion levels to be achieved over the next 10 years whilst local government run services are under ever increasing pressure to reduce the cost of their services. There is a clear need to ensure that procurement programmes secure the right services and facilities to deliver against these targets in an economically affordable and environmentally acceptable way. With the added risks of potential fines for non-compliance, local authorities have to reconsider their current services and facilities, and to plan for new networks of services (sometimes through inter-authority working) that deliver higher performance at an affordable price.
