LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT OF DANISH CONCRETE WASTE RECYCLED IN ROAD BASE APPLICATIONS

Concrete waste from the construction and demolition (C&D) sector is increasingly used in road construction applications. This practice is associated with many and very diverse environmental implications: on the one hand, it is environmentally beneficial as it saves landfill space, and at the same time it implies that extraction, transportation and use of natural materials (crushed rock or gravel) are avoided. On the other hand, emissions of pollutants from recycled material might represent an issue, with potential contamination of the underlying soil and eventually groundwater.
