COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION OF THE DEGRADATION RATE OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE IN LANDFILLS

The attractive advantages of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfilling include simple technology, low operating cost, and energy recovery. Landfilling technology has been the dominant treatment model for MSW disposal in developing countries for a long time because of the high moisture, low heating value, and complex composition of waste. Thus, the applicability of bioreactor landfilling technology, a popular model in Europe and the US, in developing countries needs to be considered.
