A PROPOSAL FOR SELECTIVE COLLECTION GUIDELINES FOR INSTITUTIONAL BUILDINGS

The environmental regulations in Italy entrust the management of selective collection to the municipalities. For this reason significant differences can be found even in neighbouring municipalities. Especially a variability in the organization of waste collection (collection with bins placed in public sites, kerbside collection or a combination of both of them) and in the colours of the bins can be found; also the composition of collected fractions can be different from municipality to municipality. This varied situation is reflected in the selective collection rate which in the provincial territory under consideration for the presented case-study (in the Nord-East of Italy) varies from about 50% to about 80%. In this way there are many problems for students, often commuters, when they move to study into a municipality or country that are different from one where they usually live. The problems, which non-resident users have to deal with, are reflected in the selective collection quality.
