METHODOLOGIES FOR ESTIMATING QUANTITIES OF INFORMAL COLLECTED AND TRANSBOUNDARY SHIPPED BULKY WASTE

This paper is based mainly on the outcomes of the project "Trans Waste - formalisation of informal sector activities in collection and transboundary shipment of wastes in and to Central and Eastern European Countries" (www.transwaste.eu) funded within the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme co-financed by the ERDF. The existence of informal waste management activities in Central Europe has more or less been neglected to date and extends beyond being the issue confined merely to the homeless. In South East European (SEE) Countries these practices are visible in the streets and on landfills.
