The objectives for European agriculture up to the year 2000 are clearly formulated with the Agenda 2000. Building on this European consensus, agriculture in the individual countries of Europe needs to be oriented to the new consumer standards, and at the same time be made further competitive for the world market. In the present situation particularly, the development opportunities for farms are more varied than ever. In addition to economic performance capability, agriculture in Europe will in future also have to stand out for its social and environmental compatibility. In order to satisfy these many and diverse requirements of sustainable agriculture, we shall have to employ the latest in modern technology consistently in Europe. The farming sector needs competent and innovative manufacturers of agricultural machinery as partners. This represents both demand and opportunity for machinery manufacturers in plant production and livestock farming.
