The maritime society consisting of ship owners, shipyards, engine builders, engine designers, equipment suppliers, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and classification societies forms a unique industry responsible for safe, reliable and efficient sea transportation. Due to a long historical development of the industry, technical expertise has been concentrated at the individual members/participants around the world.
