There are maxillofacial surgical procedures where the bone reconstruction is necessary. In cases, where the size of defect enables spontaneous healing we need a material to replace the missing bone. Contemporary such best material is patients own bone. Most likely the donor place is iliac crest bone or fibula. The grafted bone is shaped according to the size of host area and stabilized in the defect.With new experiences and possibilities there are more and more indications for application of autogenous bone grafts. Most frequently these are patients suffering from a tumor. The replenishment of defect by means of patients own bone allows us to obtain satisfactory functional and aesthetic results.
