摘要

There is a need to advance our approach to climate change adaptation for the natural environment in order to prepare for the long term projected changes in climate. The aim of Natural England's South East regional biodiversity climate change vulnerability assessment is to assess the relative vulnerability of habitats on a regional scale to inform the identification of our most vulnerable areas or features. This assists in: targeting resources and prioritising action on climate change adaptation; identifying areas where we may want to engage with spatial planning; and providing complimentary work to environmental capacity studies. The project carries out a practical assessment of the region through a regional GIS model, which is used to undertake spatial analysis on value, sensitivity, exposure and adaptive capacity of BAP habitats. A key output is a map showing the range of vulnerability across the region, giving a visual representation of the areas vulnerable to climate change.
