The purpose of the present study is to analyze the relationship between age, academic performance, expectation and attributional styles. The Attributional Style Questionnaire and the Expectancy for Success Scale were administered to 198 undergraduate students with seven weeks before the final exam. The attributional style for negative events and the expectancy for success predict a significant amount of variance in the course grade. For younger students, the course grade was significantly predicted by the attributional style for negative events and expectancy for success. For older students, the final exam grade was significantly predicted by the expectancy for success. These findings support that the attributional style for negative events and expectancy for success are important personality factors of academic achievement.
