Study on the Dynamic Characteristics of Historic Wooden Houses in Korea

The aim of this study is to figure out and evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the historic wooden houses in Korea. To find out the dynamic characteristics including the natural frequency and damping factor, the micro tremor measurement of eleven houses which are used as private residence house are examined. For each house, the values of natural frequency are determined as the peak values by Fast Fourier Transform analysis. The values of primary natural frequency in main structure are from 1. 81 to 4. 39Hz. The values of damping factor are from 2.0 to 4.0%. Tested wooden houses have the primary vibration mode with the same phase in horizontal direction in plan. From the comparison results of tested wooden houses and previous research, historic wooden houses get the result to which roof weight is less than temples, but that the natural frequency and the stiffness are high.
