Methodological developments in analysis of primary metabolites in unicellular eukaryotes by MALDI-MS

Analysis of metabolites in single cells of relatively large unicellular organisms can be achieved by manual deposition of cells on MALDI plates in a low-throughput manner. On the other hand, high-density micro-arrays for mass spectrometry may enable high-throughout analysis of metabolites in relatively small unicellular eukaryotes. We believe that this direction should bring us closer to routine single-cell metabolomic analysis in biological research.
