Secondary cryomilling was able to produce representative sub-samples from plant matrices down to 75 mg. The use of this small sub-sample enabled direct weighing into 96-well formats (instead of large vessels). Plate formats allow for processing of numerous samples in parallel, achieving dramatic throughput advantages for the overall workflows for residue studies of three major pesticides and their metabolites. By shifting to smaller formats, efficiency gains were achieved in cost and turn-around time. In addition, many safety concerns were reduced across the methods. Method consistency, reproducibility and transferability has been approved with this approach.
