The addition of trace gases to a cylindrical FAIMS has been shown to dramatically affect the CV spectra of the small molecules given in Table 1. Changes in CV spectra are greatest at very small levels (≤0.02%) and explains why contaminants must be tightly controlled when operating a cylindrical FAIMS without the use of gas additives. Especially for small molecules, because of the focusing capabilities unique to the cylindrical FAIMS device, dramatic improvements in the signal intensity are observed This workd focused on using acetontrite; a more detailed analysis of other gas additives will be carried out.
