1) The SILAC methodology confirmed that the Echinacea extract does suppress the LPS induced inflammatory response of RAW 264.7 macrophage-type cells. 2) The activity of the extract could not be explained by the action of the individual alkylamide (11a/b) but appears to result from either a combined effect of multiple alkylamides or other constituents. 3) Future work will investigate effects of isolated compounds from Echinacea and/or extracts at different time points on RAW 264.7 macrophage-type cells.
