Disclosed is a method for preparing an Echinacea formulation which includes a combination of Echinacea angustifolia and Echinacea purpurea, the method including the step of adding sufficient Echinacea angustifolia to the Echinacea purpurea such that the weight ratio of 2-ene alkylamide to 2,4-diene alkylamide in the formulation is between about 1:15 to about 2:1.
