Traces of Caffeine, Pharmaceuticals and Pesticides in Drinking Water Across the Province of Quebec (Canada)

1. There are currently no water quality guidelines for caffeine or any of the pharmaceuticals analyzed. We can estimate the lifetime exposure to those compounds for someone drinking two liters per day over a seventy-year life span. The ratio of the recognized therapeutic daily dose to that of a 70-yr lifetime exposure is between 0.04 and 0.3 %. 2. Yet again, we are still therefore being exposed to very low concentrations of a cocktail of contaminants for which we do not know the effects of chronic exposure and the toxicity interactions.
