The CS technique allows the quantitative analysis of synthetic polymers and peptides with relative standard deviations below 8% and in most cases below 5%. The analysis allows the quantitation of synthetic polymers with correlation coefficients of 0.999 and peptides with correlation coefficients of at least 0. 982. In order to overcome some disadvantages in the homogeneity of the electrical field with the drilled Shimadzu target, a new target was developed in which the drills have a diameter of 1 mm and the surface is completely flat. This target generates more stable sample surfaces and a more homogeneous electrical field for accelerating the ions formed. Furthermore, the application of metal powder greatly improved the resolution in analyzing at greater laser raster widths and an increase in intensity as well as a decrease of the variation coefficient in analyzing a polymer, in this case PEG 2000. MALDI imaging proved the excellent homogeneity of the sample surface.
