A novel mass selective extraction method is proposed for efficient electron transfer dissociation (ETD). The demonstration showed that product ions with m/z larger than the precursor ions were extracted by a combination of an axial AC field and an axial DC bias between a linear RFQ for the reaction trap (ETD trap) and an ion guide (Q2). Lower m/z products were extracted by a novel combination of a radial DC dipole in ETD trap and an axial DC bias between ETD trap and Q2. Using these procedures, secondary electron transfer events were suppressed so that allows sensitive ETD.
