Water Ice as a Matrix for IR-MALDI o-TOF Mass Spectrometry

Using a water ice matrix in combination with o-TOF mass spectrometry allows for: (1) Particular soft desorption/ionization conditions → detection of non-covalent complexes; (2) Generation of multiply charged ions of peptides and oligosaccharides; (3) High shot-to-shot reproducibility and mass accuracy; (4) Improved analytical sensitivity compared to previous studies; (5) Extended mass range and new analyte classes (glycosaminoglycans); (6) Direct IR-MALDI analysis from tissue for future matrix-background-free MALDI-MS imaging (7) Convergence of IR-MALDI, ESI, and LILBID processes?
