Automated Magnetic Bead based Sample Purification for High Throughput PCR Product Analysis on an ESI-TOF Mass Spectrometer

In this work we describe the implementation of a custom magnetic bead based PCR cleanup module capable of >12 hours of continuous automated operation while processing up to 1440 samples. The sample cleanup processes is distributed over 20 individual spin mixer modules reducing the sample processing time to 30 seconds once the carousel is fully populated with samples. A disposable magnetic bead reservoir provides sufficient magnetic particles to process a full run of 1400 samples. PCR reactions containing multiple DNA products with masses >90kDa have been successfully process and analyzed. Not cleared or approved by FDA for any clinical application. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
