The combination of ion turning optics, with PDC IF, and PDC IT allow for the enhancement of sensitivity in an IM-MS device using only DC potentials. The turning optics allow for the introduction of ions orthogonal to the entrance of the drift cell; allowing atmospheric gases to be efficiently pumped away. Simulations show that the turning optics work in a range of pressures with high turning efficiency. Simulations have shown that PDC IF radially funnels ions both in a long design, 16-2 mm, and in the short design, 8-4 mm with high ion transmission. The combination of turning optics with PDCIF, allows for high transmission of ions into the IMS drift cell. Additionally, the incorporation of an accumulation region will allow for a pulsed ESI source and increased ion density per packet.
