These experiments exhibit the potential for the use of MALDI-MS/MS for quantitative applications. MALDI has long been considered an excellent qualitative technique and has been used so considerably. Through the combination of a uniformly applied internal standard along with wide-isolation MS/MS, quantitative MALDI-MS/MS results are achievable in both MSI applications as well as tissue extraction experiments, as shown in Table 1. The advantage of using MALDI in place of LC for tissue extraction analysis is the significant reduction in both analysis time and lab resources.
