Schisandra sphenanthera (southern magnoliavine fruit, Nan-wuweizi) and Schisandra chinensis (northern magnoliavine fruit, Bei-wuweizi) are herbal medicines with similar appearance and both belong to Fructus Schisandrae (magnoliavine fruit, Wuweizi). They are distributed in different geographic regions in China, and S. chinensis is considered of better quality. This project aims to develop a rapid and simple method for differentiation of S. sphenanthera and S. chinensis.
