This study provides for the first time the profiling and imaging of the cuticular lipids in the Arabidopsis cer5 mutant flowers. The results showed that cer5 effect is more subtle than other mutants, such as cer1 (Fig.5). The comparisons between GC-MS and LDI-MS results indicate that the two methods generate data that have a similar trend but are not in total agreement. High-spatial mass spectrometric data will be acquired to map metabolite distributions in single cell to understand the CER genes regulatory mechanisms.
