Analytical protocols were successfully developed for the qualitative analysis of human kidney stones. The obtained mass spectrometry data, determined that the stones were composed of melamine, ammeline and uric acid. In comparison to the previously analyzed canine kidney stones they proved to be different in color, hardness and composition although both had the presence of melamine in common. The custom manufactured HILIC chip used for the separation of these polar molecules allowed for the simultaneous, unambiguous confirmation of both melamine and ammeline.
