The success of proteomics relies on identifying as many proteins as possible in a sample. A variety of data dependent (DD) methods, with multiple injections of the sample, have been demonstrated to be the most useful for this task. Some DD methods utilize post acquisition processing to make precursor ion exclusion lists or data base search results to exclude already identified proteins or peptides. Another common approach is called gas phase fractionation, where the DD window is divided to discrete m/z ranges across the mass range (Refs. ?). In this work we describe a DD method for the Orbitrap that doesn't require post acquisition processing, but is designed to dig deeper into the potential pool of precursors coeluting at any given time.
