Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) that originate from household pharmaceuticals and personal care products are growing concern due to their increasing occurrences in surface and ground water. Traditional treatment technologies are ineffective against these pollutants. Laboratory and pilot scale studies have shown that adsorption, ozone degradation and membrane filtration are promising technologies for treatment of EDCs. Therefore, an advanced ozone membrane reactor that combines adsorption, ozonication and membrane filtration was developed, fabricated and tested for treatment of a refractory EDC [1].
