Fifty-one patients (mean age at operation: 4.4 years) underwent lateral tunnel type Fontan using autologous atrial wall flap since 1992 and its long-term results were reviewed with a mean follow up time of 80 months. There were 1 hospital death and 1 late death. There were 2 reoperations (1 closure for intraatrial R-L shunt and 1 mitral valve plasty for mitral regurgitation). Ninety-seven % were in normal sinus rhythm (1 atrial tachycardia in polysplenia and 1 atrial flutter). This autogenous lateral tunnel type Fontan is expected to avoid anticoagulation therapy and to promote future growth of the anastomosis.
