This paper presents the architecture of Radar Synchronization Unit (RSU) for multi function active phased array radar. The RSU is central to the performance of active phased array radar. This unit brings in all important programmability into the phased array in terms of scheduling, timing & beam coefficients computation in the multifunction context. The RSU consists of the digital and analog sections. The digital section is responsible for the generation of radar timing and control signals, and beam setting parameters. The analog section is responsible for the generation of antenna drive signal, Local oscillator (LOs) signals, and master clock. The paper also describes the functions of the various modules, and its interfaces.
