Driver assistance systems are a feature that can be found in almost every car from current series productions. In their origins, only parts of the driver's tasks were aided, such as the optimal amount of brake power during maximum deceleration in an antilock system. The further development was aiming at adding comfort for the driver, such as navigation systems or headlight regulation devices. Ongoing research is aiming at partly automating traffic and linking road users with each other or the relevant infrastructure (Car2X). Potential applications share the need of the knowledge of the precise position of the involved vehicles.
